A hard fork WILL be what saved bitcoin, if it is saved. If only because of the 2106 problem requiring it.

You should talk to Keith from seed signer about entropy. He has been putting in the work including showing why dice rolls aren’t that “risky” I’m unconvinced anyone should ever use a passphrase - should never be compared to multisig. The single sig focused hardware marketing budgets will always try to convince you otherwise. I have no regrets in trusting level headed research from open source and DIY devs over corporate marketing.

I don't get why everyone says random generation was the most important task. It'd have been a better signer than any on the market if it didn't have an RNG at all. It was a task that if you're gonna do has to be done right though.

If anything after the entropy fuckup, they were /are lot of eyes on the coldcard code and other wallets . Coldcards force user entropy now (latest firmware) so I think they are now ok to use , even to generate the seed, hopefully they go fully open source not just src code available. So don't throw the device just yet

I'm sorry I never have trusted hardware wallets and never will. Unless you're both a hardware AND software engineer you CANNOT be sure it's safe. I'm old fashioned. Physical dice rolls to create a 100% offline wallet backed up on steel. 3/3 multisig. 768 bits of real entropy.

The outernet stuff you're looking for the name of is Reticulum I suspect. Works over lora, Bluetooth, wifi, TCP/IP, ham radio (illegally -- its encrypted), wires...pretty much whatever you want. Better mechanisms for propagating cultural capital are required more than ever but I don't think self custody is that hard. The ritual that guy mentioned is not brought up enough, being familiar and comfortable with each setup comes in hand when things get hairy. #40hpw

'Anything is safer than a coldcard' is not entirely accurate, especially if you're one of the fence cases. Malware hot wallets are having a field day. Saw one user lost 6.07 BTC on mobile 'wasabi' wallet which of course was fake.

Well said. As someone who's more anti-core than pro-110, but also a 110 supporter, I agree with Guy's take on this. One thing worth mentioning is that some of the biggest names in Bitcoin development, like @npub1qg8j6gdwp… and sipa, are the worst offenders when it comes to misrepresenting 110 as censorship. It's particularly disappointing these heavy weights can be so wrong about this, and it's impossible not to read bad intentions when they keep pushing the same flawed logic. It definitely works on the midwits though, so not surprised they do it.
