I shared this quite a while back, but now that you're on the Nix/Hyprland train (and my config has improved as well), here's my NixOS & HomeManager flake on gitub. It's a multi-host flake with reasonably sane, opinionated configs for Hyprland, Niri, Sway, River & Wayfire - also enables Plasma6 and COSMIC desktops.

Hyprland has been my go-to for a long time, but I'm really digging Niri with the "niri-switcher" addon lately. I'd gone to using the hyprscroller plugin for Hyprland, and in Niri that type of scrolling (based on PaperWM for Gnome) is built in Beautifully! It's also written in Rust 🦀 - and you can bring along your same Waybar config, just use "niri/workspaces" etc instead of the hyprland equivalents. It's definitely a project to watch (and try out!).

5k Great show you guys have. I love to hear about the behind the scenes work when it comes to podcasting 2.0. With regards to with auto generating voice for podcasting. This is happening with YouTube shorts and a lot of summary type videos for movies and shows so I wouldn't be surprised the same thing happens with podcasting. You're alright though, for me I do prefer the personal touch with podcasts so hopefully it won't be as big an issue as it is on video sharing sites.

4k I have ADHD and use podcasts and audiobooks to help me focus at work, video just distracts me and so I never use it. That being said if others would like video I'd have no issue with it so long as you remain an audio first show. I've given up on a few long time listens due to the hosts moving to a video first mindset and making the audio a waste of time to listen to, I'd hate to see that happen to TWIB.
tl;dr: Video is a fine addition, as long as you keep an audio first mindset.

4k While I do believe that the establishment Democrats are anti-bitcoin, I don't think the El Salvador investigation is just about the use of Bitcoin. While I'm sure the use of Bitcoin is a factor it may just be a convenient way to mask their true intention of driving a wedge between El Salvador and the current administration over the migrant detention center. Then again this is the Dems we're talking about so they may just have their "Bitcoin bad" blinders on and are just taking any opportunity to attack Bitcoin.

4k First, enjoy the vacation, it's well deserved. Second on Ace's thought on the Amazon coin, I agree with his assessment but I think the real play will be the interest. They will treat the Amazon coin like a gift card where you deposit money with the company and redeem it later, and in that in-between time the company is accruing interest. Starbucks is rivaling some banks with their gift card interest bearing holdings and I'm sure Amazon is not far behind them.

10k I'm really interested in what Cannonical has with Private Mobile Networks. Currently, I work with a local ISP that uses mostly Ubiquity AirMax Radios for Internet, but am looking into alternatives. This might be the solution to look into on our end for last mile connections. Plus we already have a few Microwave Connections so understand the licensing process. Thanks for covering this and I will let you know if it pans out on our end.

10k I get things are hard atm, but I wouldn't give up on the Bitcoin side. Keep it there, but also promote more of your paypal donations and amazon wishlist. Your music podcast really introduces me to all sorts of rock music and it is awesome.
Even with your upcoming homestead podcast, you should enable it cause for me I mainly sat stream and it would suck to lose the ability to do that on your podcasts.
Either way, I hope to hear more from ya and also the music you promote.

1k Update to fountain subscription feedback - it seems that the 'subscribe for early access' message gets downloaded in place of the episode, so I had to delete it from my library and then manually search for the episode and re-add it to my library to listen. The 'subscribe for early access' message wasn't automatically replaced in my library when the full episode became available for everyone.

In my opinion bip110 is comparable to bigblockers: few influencers, 1 mining pool, bitcoin dies if we don't do this, loud plebs with strong but technically unsound opinions, minority ... The only difference is they needed hard fork which requires more "apparent" consensus. Soft fork that just limits consensus rules is much more sneaky and much more destabilizing if consensus is low (less then 80-90%) like now.

5k Yeah I have to be careful during the holiday season as well. My little sister is a heart patient and we have to be vigilant. Unlike last year, she was down for the count for nearly a month. And I think she also caught pneumonia in the process too. So yeah, I understand your vigilance when it comes to making sure you're not getting sick as much as possible, and especially with the norovirus.

5k Back in time Boost - During our Thanksgiving Honday, we ended up qualifying for two turkeys at our local WinCo. Sad part I didn't realize this till I got back with an item we initially forgot. So I had to run back again to grab another Frozen Turkey. It still sitting in the freezer to this day. We'll probably cook it for new years or Christmas.

Chris, it's great to see you on the Nix/Hyprland train - I'll be checking out your config for sure! I've been going this route for a while and loving it, and it sounds like youve gone a similar route to me with the multi-host flake approach. Someone mentioned the repeated rebuilds - this takes a little less time with home-manager, and there are a couple ways to approach this, my tip would be, keep it as a standard Hyprland config file outside of Nix/HM while making heavy changes - this way you benefit from hot reload when saving the config file. Once it's more stable, start writing it to your .config folder with home-manager's "home.file". Then convert to a ".nix" eventually when it's pretty solid.

I too have been feeling the pain of no boosting or sat streaming from the private bootleg feed. One idea would be a 'credit' or 'podpass' system for Fountain that allows the podcast creator to give credits/passes to their Subscription feeds. I.E. you don't have to ditch the private RSS feeds for now, but also add the bootlegs to a Fountain Subscription feed, and ask the Fountain team to give these credits/passes to a JSON list of Jupiter Party members - obviously this requires Fountain to implement this credit/pass feature, and you would have to build a way to let Party members enter their Fountain IDs. But it might be a potential way forward?!

Regarding Bcachefs, I find it sad that these squabbles in the mailing list impact support within the kernel. ReiserFS is still in the kernel and I don’t think there’s anything more “toxic” than killing your wife. Free software has its legacy on the shoulders of abrasive personalities, whether it be Stallman, Torvalds, or the myriad of other characters. Why do they get a pass but Overstreet doesn’t?

Okay sending a boost cause I didn't realize my wallet ran out of sats. DERP moment. With regard with the last episode with crush it really resonated with me cause I'm currently using Warp Terminal and Claude to go through all my markdown notes and clean them up. Plus it help me learn how to research and tech it to use ddgr and lynx to breakdown information and give me summaries. It took me about a week though to get the rules tune cause it like trying to guide a toddler. Anyways I'm warming up to the idea of using llms as a tool to solve problems and document work process that I can reference later. Anyways love U guys! 🙃

I am really interested in bcachefs, but I think it’s perfectly acceptable for the maintainers to kick it if the maintainer is a jerk. I’ve worked with really smart jerks and it just isn’t worth it. To be fair, I also don’t agree with how Linus treats people, but no one has the power to change Linus, they do have the power to not perpetuate it though. I hope they work it out.
