What do I think of BIP444? If you’re interested, read the original BIP, understand it properly then make your own judgement. Too many Bitcoiners are just listening to their favorite influencer and picking a side to support. The BIP makes no reference to a decision being made to determine if arbitrary data is objectionable. The BIP lists 7 Op Codes or conditions which would further restrict arbitrary data at the consensus level. I think Matthew Kratter picked that ball up and ran with it himself for some shock value. This BIP seems unlikely to have legs, but if we’re going to debate it we should at least understand it properly. My 2 sats worth. (Bonus boost for “nose candy Mark” in the last ep. I approve!)

Found TWIB last week and have been bingeing backwards to episode 50. Love the macro take.

Here's an intetesting article I ran across on Nomadnet: 42bfb438810723c65fe196af59948600:/page/nip-05/kudzaikutukwa@freedom.tech/the-golden-encirclement.mu If you don't have Nomadnet, I think it is also posted here on Substack: https://kudzai.substack.com/p/the-golden-encirclement-how-c…

Thanks for the value

Thanks for the high signal, here's a small amount of value in return. I'm a few shows out but PLEASE stay audio focussed. Visuals (e.g. notes on your nostr account) as an add-on would be a bonus but I'm finding I have to stop, dry/clean my hands multiple times per show where they've leaned more heavily into video. It's frustrating, when I've hit a rhythm in some tedious chore, and am successfully transported to realms of self-sovereign contemplation / education, to have to stop what I'm doing and drop back into reality to work out what on earth they're talking about! It makes the task seem longer and I enjoy the show a bit less. Anyway that's my view. Thanks for all the work you put in.

As much like the idea of Lava products I've seen some investigation posts from Cory Klippsten and Samson Mow showing from Lava's own terms how the risk is being put all on the borrower. Stuff about "the borrower agrees that these are business loans only" buried in the terms and their rates are so much lower compared to other larger, more experienced lenders that something seems off. Something seems off. Also suggest listening to Guy Swann's recent roundtable episode discussion on Core/Knots and BIP-444. The social layer to the whole debate is being lost, I think. The technical arguments are just a distraction, imo.

Linux and Bitcoin do go well together! I've been listening to you since 2014 and bought Bitcoin for the first time 2 years ago just to boost the shows because I wanted to support JB. I've only gotten orange pilled this year after doing the research. I wish I was there for the Plan B days. I remember awhile ago you and Alan sold Bitcoin to buy a server. I wonder how much that server costs now in fiat fun bucks given today's Bitcoin price...

As someone whose wife is a government employee we have had to scale back our DCA sadly. Once that backpay hits though we are going to smash buy (hopefully before the price jumps back up 🤣)

Boosting again just because I keep thinking about the stuff in this episode

Kratter has always been a kind of Bitcoin purist but I have had a tough time following him recently too- seems like an overreaction on his part or sour grapes- last thing we want is a group or individual determining what Bitcoin should or should not be used for

Re: a soft fork, I have posted a question on Matthew Kratter's videos: if we only have 20% of node runners switching to knots why do you think we have sufficient consensus to force the miners to mine the soft fork blocks?
-
Last week I boosted and relied on you seeing the rendered version of my npub like is shown on Fountain & Primal, but that isn’t how things work. After reading you suggested making my own site pouted at my Nostr profile… so I did 😁 I setup https://genebean.me with all my links and setup https://genebean.me/nostr as a shortcut.

Such a good show!

Chris, you are either intentionally mid-representing this soft fork, or you aren’t remembering what orphan blocks are. https://www.lightspark.com/glossary/orphan-block Reorganizing a block happens often- that’s why we have the little 6-block circle indicator in Sparrow for example. You should be waiting about 6 confirmations to consider a transaction fully settled. That isn’t “F***ing with property” that’s how Bitcoin works. Btw, guess what Foundry, Blackrock, Coinbase, etc, think about what CoreV30 does- by default making bitcoin an anonymous permanent data storage service -to their property? Not to mention myself and any other decent Bitcoin node runner. The decision here isn’t about voting thankfully. You are free to reject the soft fork, pin and persist on the CSAM chain and call it “the real Bitcoin” if you like, just like the B-cashers do with their hard fork.

Fresh TWiB! Last week, I asked if the US government shutdown was impacting Bitcoin. Boy did I get my answer! Also thought on BIP-444, the supposed whale selling, and more. Enjoy! 🍻
