Imho we have let the crypto skeptics get inside our heads. I think as a community we should lean into the fact that boost are powered by bitcoin. As a small business, I’m grateful to have support in a hard asset. It’s helped me fight inflation and keep my head above water. Bitcoin is an intelligence test, and I don’t need everyone in the world listening. I want a great audience, not the biggest audience possible. These are things we should lean into as a podcasting community trying to offer an alternative to mainstream crap. Go Podcasting!

Just wanted to say I really appreciate the work you guys do behind the scenes for the us Podcasters out here! Also +1 to the idea of putting an on-chain Address in the funding tag. I’ve definitely heard from a few listeners that would support via onchain, because that’s where they already have their stats.

I will give Fountain some grace….. just been frustrated at the NOSTR switch up. Fountain was finally way less buggy for past year… but I understand there trying best and working hard. Just really loved the app before this. All love

The non-gameplay bits were good and will be helpful when I'm chatting with others or thinking about what I can setup for my kiddo.

Also, a while back you guys were talking about network equipment for the studio in the post show. I’m not a big fan of going Ubiquiti for everything. I think you guys might find it to be restrictive and expensive. It’s pretty cost-effective to go with pfSense or opnsense on the firewall, spin up the unifi controller software on a VM, and then you manage Unifi APs with their nice UI without buying any cloud gateway devices, saving you hundreds. I have less experience with the cameras, so someone else will have to chime in about how those could be used in a more “tinkerer-friendly” way. Wes, during that same post show conversation you brought up potentially having problems using pfSense or opnsense on your home (fiber) network. I used to live quite close to you and sent you some specific info about how to do it, including a link to a pfSense guide specific the ISP. The guide works for opnsense too. It’s nothing too crazy, you just have to set up PPPoE and deal with the management VLAN. If you spoof the MAC address of the ISP router, it’ll just work and you don’t have to let them know you changed anything.

Headphone boost! As someone who has boosted in about thoroughly enjoying highly technical content, I also very much enjoyed the gaming content. Maybe it’s the ADD, but I personally think the wide variety is a feature, and keeps the show feeling fresh. Regarding the Saturday live stream, I absolutely would listen to that, if I wasn’t already planning to attending in-person! See ya’ll at what will be my first LFNW! P.S. I haven’t personally tried it yet, but Chris has mentioned wanting something like this in the past. I am running my own Hyprland config but it's far from perfect. I’m looking to try out Nixy soon.

This zip code where I started listening. I’m a full-blow Nix junkie because of this show. Everything in my house is slowly becoming a NixOS box. I love the technical content. I’d happily do a survey if you guys asked. I run my own Nextcloud, Nostr relay, and nix-bitcoin node. First boost from my own lightning node! All route thru a cheap Linode (thanks for that $100 code =P). My first episode was the Shufflecake episode where the audience was invited to SSH in and find a secret. I love the audience “interactive” content. I was also as the Olympia meet up and the suicide linux challenge was insanely fun. Keep up the amazing work!

Hey guys! First LUP boost and first boost funded with my own node! I’m a member and I love all of the shows. I’m SO down for Jefftastic meet up. This is a zipcode boost. Wes and his map will be able to tell you, I wouldn’t have too far to travel, so I’m happy to help if there’s anything I can do. I don’t have any meshtastic nodes up and running at this moment, but I have a lot stuff left over from my experiments. Mostly Heltecs and RAK. The antennas my Heltec’s came with were trash. After improving the antenna, my distances went way up. I have 2 large antennas and have permission to permenantly affix a node on the roof of my work.

So now we can’t Boost comments? Man I wish I never updated to latest app version :( I really had fun on Fountain and it seems like it was finally working well after early years being buggy but now I can’t boost comments? Sucks. NOSTR Sucks

How does Nebula compare to Tailscale for the purpose of isolating a server running OpenClaw (or Hermes) in a network? Ive built a plan to isolate a small server inside my LAN so that I can experiment with agents, one item on the plan was creating a Tailnet with only the devices I want the agent to connect to. Can I do that with Nebula? How would that differ from using Tailscale? Thanks!

I use KeePass with syncthing and it works great for my needs. Love the Gnome Commander pick, and it's a nice little bit of nostalgia remembering when Gnome initially shipped Midnight Commander as their file manager.

Could you give us some beginners tips for trying OpenClaw. In a FOSS way, what’s a safe way to play with this without losing the farm. I was thinking of spinning it up on an old Raspberry Pi 4 I’m not using. How do you think that would work? I’d like to play around with this but aren’t quite ready to unleash it on my main computers. I’ve been using Hyprland on NixOS for years at this point, and imo, it’s a match made in heaven. Hyprland has really come a long way since the early days and has had first-class NixOS support the whole time I’ve been using it. It’s really cool to see more people appreciating all the work being done over there, they really deserve the attention. I feel like it made my computers fun and exciting again.

Regarding keeping fake boosts… I see zaprite has an api and can send webhooks… what if you fire a webhook on payment that triggers boostcli or similar for the same amount. That would get the funds from zaprite into the splits and the regular boosting ecosystem. This is assuming that @npub1getal6ykt… Hub doesn’t have an api you could use to send the boost instead. Also, I bet the code that allows for boosting from podcastindex.org could be reused as the boost sender after the webhook is received… Lastly, I bet you could poll the wallet that’s receiving from zaprite and use that to track what payments have been forwarded as boosts…

I almost tried Nebula, but I actually just converted all my stuff from WireGuard to self-hosted Netbird. If you guys had consulted with me first, I’d have probably chosen nebula, but at least it will be interesting to compare the two. =P With WireGuard, I kept ending up in situations where DNS alone couldn’t quite do everything I needed. Netbird redirects DNS queries to itself, which allows it to respond for your private network, or forward them to the local DNS provider, and that means I can refer to my stuff by name AND it doesn’t break the software on my work PC. What a time to be alive! I really like it so far! Much better than handling as many WireGuard keys as I was. Does nebula do something similar to netbird with DNS?

I have had really good luck with N100 boards. I have 2 that run 24/7. One is my firewall and the other is my NAS. Chris and Wes, you have both recently mentioned you’re thinking about new network gear. I’ve been running opnsense on a barebones, fanless n100 firewall with 4 2.5G NICs from Aliexpress for years, and I don’t really have any reason to complain. It’s been super stable and reliable for me. Wes, I have successfully used one to spoof the MAC address of and replace CenturyLink’s router without having to tell them, when I lived in Seattle. You just need to configure the WAN port to handle the management VLAN (201) and PPPoE. I built the NAS myself with an N100 board I found on sale. It came with 6 SATA ports and I added more with a PCI adapter. I also really like that I can dedicate a full 2.5G NIC to each of my VLANs. It’s in a Jonsbo NAS case with front loading disks running NixOS (btw). All in all, I really like these little n100 boards on projects that I want to treat like an appliance.

I agree we need a good modern in-kernel filesystem. I'm also still frustrated at the bzf attitude of the kernel devs wrt zfs. If they'd embraced it as an external project with a special status, the fs story would have been so much better

I'm simultaneously sick to death of hearing about AI, and enjoying LUP's AI coverage. You all are on a very, very short list of exceptions, because you strike a good balance. Both in terms of the amount of coverage, but also in being neither cheerleaders nor thought-free haters. I'm pretty much aligned with Brent, and like he clearly is, I'm enjoying hearing Chris and Wes's AI adventures

I enjoy the AI subject matter and the way you cover it. I’m fairly new to the Linux and FOSS world and now I have to weave AI into it all, so I appreciate the way you bring it into the Linux ecosystem, give examples of practical use cases and also potential hooks to be aware of. AI is here to stay and everyone needs to understand how to use it, so leep the content coming, that’s my vote.

Daemon update time! Last Saturday night, I sat down to install FreeBSD. I haven't done so since 4-dot-something, but I'm sure it'll be easy. I'm a NetBSD user after all! The FreeBSD installer is not as easy as Net's. I eventually gave up trying to get zfs to boot on my T440p, and started thinking about Comic Sans. Didn't boost in last week out of shame. This week I tried on a new machine (a more modern thinkpad). Got root on ZFS working, thankfully, which for me is the whole point of trying FreeBSD. And eventually X11, KDE, and sound. I still can't get my preferred keyboard layout, though. I went for syncthing in a jail to get 7 points instead of just 2. I also did a fresh install of my favoured NetBSD, which I don't normally run as a desktop. I have to say, getting a graphical environment working was easier. In general, I find the NetBSD installation process much more pleasant, though I'm of course more familiar with it. Wes might enjoy looking at the NetBSD boot process. It's wonderfully simple. You can even get root on ZFS, though it's a manual process that makes for a slightly janky boot procedure -- no worse than how Linux boots, though! https://wiki.netbsd.org/root_on_zfs/ For scoring: 6 points for: FreeBSD installed and online, audio recording (will send link later), and syncthing 15 points for: syncthing in a jail, firewall configured, and I also installed a NetBSD desktop. I don't think I'll keep the FreeBSD installation, but I am going to keep NetBSD on this laptop. It not only suspends (FreeBSD could do that), it even resumes! But in general, I'm sticking with Linux as a desktop.

Personally my favorite trilogy is episode 44-45-46 go back and listen if your new here and caught on post episode 50. Starting at episode 1 makes most sense but if ur a casual listener I’m telling u 44-46 is a trilogy that should be put on CD and mailed to e dynamical citizens. Good Job Moe! You too Adam!
