She's a social worker at the local government school but about to go into private practice. Before that she worked for the state and has placed many kids in foster care. So many times her opinion is ignored and the state gets what they want. The foster parents are pretty good in our area though. But there are MANY who sign up across the county only with the goal to abuse kids. It's incredibly hard to figure out which ones are the bad ones unless the kids come forward to a therapist or social worker. But my wife's time is spent dealing with bureaucratic BS rather than being able to actually help the kids.

Great practical home mining advice, Jon. Well into my 3rd decade as a mechanical engineer (we are indeed getting old!), over engineering anything is a big pet peeve of mine and I beat that mental model into my teams. Gall’s Law comes to mind: always start simple and only add complexity once you have high confidence in the foundational design or setup. Ego has no place in a designer’s thinking if a system needs to ‘just work’. I also heat simply shunt any excess heat in my space with a thermostat controlled damper. As for Jack, the modular design is cool but unproven in the field.

Just saying hey too let you know what I'm thinking. Well I am not. I find it leads to stress and unhappiness. If anything I'm thinking about doing something to get downs syndrome. How can we film an MTV Cribs type show with Bitcoiner houses without doxxing locations or faces?!?! Can Home Assistant help with that?! I also used to have all these automated lights and quickly realized I didn’t want to deal with it or have it phoning home. For lights automation I’d much easier to install an analog option (motion sensor switch) on the wall to replace the manual switch. Like a bathroom occupancy switch which will turn on the lights for 30 minutes when you walk in... So unless you take a really long shit then the light and fan will turn off after you finish your business and leave. If you get stuck watching videos or doomscrolling then just a simple wave of the hand will turn it back on! I had this happen to me once in college where I was in a stall and the light turned off in the bathroom while I was in there and the sensor couldn’t see me... didn’t turn back on until the next person walked in and was surprised I was shitting in the dark. Or in my shed when I can’t get my fucking miners to work and I’m staring at the computer then the lights turn off so I typically use that as an indicator that I need another beer and walk over to trigger the lights again. (Sorry for the long boost on your hour-long show... I sent extra sats...)

Leveling up the automation of the systems at the homestead is on the long list of winter projects. It does seem like a tipping point has been reached where remote control and automation is now simple and affordable enough while still being possible to do while maintaining privacy that it's well worth making the effort to integrate.

When I did my state bid years ago for selling coke there was a creepy ass Skinwalker that looked like he was straight out a horror movie. He was always whining and crying for the guards while I was trying to sleep or meditate so I told him if I ever have the chance I’m gonna slowly kill him and carve the names of his victims on his forehead before the guards got to him.

I have been using Muun wallet as my submarine swap service of choice because there is no minimum amount required for a swap. As max mentioned, it's a bit frustrating because the wallet needs to be empty for the swaps to be effective in maintaining privacy. Because there is no coin control, it's impossible to be sure utxos won't be consolidated when swapping. This means only moving one utxo through the wallet at a time to accomplish change consolidation on a lightning channel. Because there is no send full balance feature, it takes a few tries to get the swap to leave the wallet totally empty. We need more swap services and not just everything using boltz on the back end.
