Gents! I’ve been running NixOS as a server for a year now, really keen to get started with flakes in NixOS, but struggling to get started - any pointers? NixOS on the media PC has been amazing! Meshtasic devices rocked up on Friday, but I didn’t make it to the post office in time, have to wait until Monday now! *sigh*

Oh I didn't realize it was going to be the weekend of Oct. 13th so yeah it not going to work out. Oh well... 😅 Still excited to hear Jeff on the show either way!

Lads, I just made the switch to NixOS GNOME for the media PC from Windows. Changed/added about three lines in the config and bam! working. Spousal approval 10/10 too, which of course is all that matters. Pretty happy with the performance on the old AMD Phenom II X6 - boots up fast and seems to handle all media types at 4K. The 5.1 surround sound analogue output and Bluetooth for the mouse even worked out of the box! Thumbs up on the map work last week, Bakers Hill, Western Australia was correct for 6562. Think I have the username set correct now in fountain? Jupiter Broadcasting shows are revitalising my interest in Linux and self hosting, thanks team really appreciate it. Cheers, Retro Gear.

Reporting back regarding CoinJar. So far so good. Have updated my Jupiter party subscription to use the attached Mastercard, now paying for my membership with sats! Few retail purchases this week too and it’s working great. Hurts to spend those sats though! Also flipping back to core with config tweak given the knots BIP444 shenanigans. Buy store brands: stack sats!

Challenge you to setup LOAF now - put that USB floppy drive to use. Not in IT myself, career went another way, but still love playing with Linux. BTW, thanks for getting me hooked on NixOS! Loved the Gaming episode! I'm more of a competitive fps player so Overwatch, The Finals, and Splitgate for me. Like Brent I have never played StarCraft so he's not alone. For single player games, I'm currently playing Hogwarts Legacy. Though back up your saves cause Steam Cloud can be a bit finicky with multiple devices. Nearly lost 30hrs of gameplay if it wasn't for my steamdeck being shutdown when it happened. Overall, I definitely would like to see more gaming content. Might be an excuse if you guys Livestream with peertube or owncast if that's the case. Even Zap.stream has a platform built on Nostr and Sat Streaming. Or just an episode covering selfhosted live streaming. Rehellio is my tag on Steam if anyone is curious. Can't wait to see ya over at LFNW!

I think the livestream all will probably great work for you. You could also set up a memberful account like what Jupiter Broadcasting does and they distribute the raw/no ads live shows from there too. Just an idea so you can generate some monthly income.

Been playing with LibreNMS for a work project to monitor radio repeater sites via a microwave network. The monitoring also includes the radio repeater devices and DC power equipment. Alert notifications are excellent with many platforms to choose from. Wonder what your thoughts are or have you used it? Had a Quick Look at Zabbix, but the UI seems clunky. Keep up the great work team, I wouldn’t be doing what I am now with out LUP and Self Hosted! PS don’t forget about those ham radio licences!

I'm really interested in what Cannonical has with Private Mobile Networks. Currently, I work with a local ISP that uses mostly Ubiquity AirMax Radios for Internet, but am looking into alternatives. This might be the solution to look into on our end for last mile connections. Plus we already have a few Microwave Connections so understand the licensing process. Thanks for covering this and I will let you know if it pans out on our end. Also hope to see you at LFNW. It always a hoot to talk to you and listen to your IT snanagans.

While I love to hear more gaming stuff in general, I think just discussing your experience instead of listening to clips would be the best way to go forward. Just hearing you guys playing and not having visual context was the confusing part. Otherwise you're better off just creating a gaming video instead as extra content for those curious. I get things are hard atm, but I wouldn't give up on the Bitcoin side. Keep it there, but also promote more of your paypal donations and amazon wishlist. Your music podcast really introduces me to all sorts of rock music and it is awesome. Even with your upcoming homestead podcast, you should enable it cause for me I mainly sat stream and it would suck to lose the ability to do that on your podcasts. Boosting from Fountain with my Alby hub connected via Nostur connect! Re tax implications for spends on the CoinJar Mastercard setup in Australia, they report to the tax office directly or you can easily download transaction reports for your accountant. Also got my node setup dialled in now with clearnet and Tor working smooth and BTC Explorer to monitor it. I’ll get my act together and put the compose file on GitHub and report back. It gets easier every day: stack sats.

Gents! Been a while. Bitwarden, self host, been amazing for a couple of years. Linux router, just moved to NixOS as my router from OPNsense a couple of weeks ago. Using technitium for DHCP and DNS on the same box. Just started playing with Hermes, been using OpenCode for a couple of months. What a time we live in! Oh under powered system, still running a Pentium II 266 as my win 2003 server for my retro gaming PCs when having a good old LAN with mates! Cheers from Aus.

Hey Chris, I’ve been looking for a product in Australia similar to Fold you always mention. I settled on CoinJar. They have a prepaid Mastercard that you can instantly setup and use. It uses onchain BTC to fund purchases directly. Seems like a good product and trusted company since 2013. Of course it’s custodial, but unavoidable I beleive. I’d been keen for other Aussies to boost in and let us know what they use. Alby hub is still my main savings account. Skip the coffee: stack sats!

When it comes to running relays, you guys can probably run your own filtered relay. Because if you take a look at a relay called filter.noster.wine, it has a way of aggregating multiple relays and giving you a feed. This is designed to reduce spam on the nostr network and also battery life because it's there's less rela's ones phone has to communicate to. So, if each podcast app has its own relay to handle its own community, then PodcastIndex can just take in those feeds that are submitted and then aggregate them together into a single global feed. Then that way that gives you a central information point, but if you guys go down, each podcaster has their own relay and then can handle their own loads. Just my two cents, still love you guys and I'll bet you do. Go podcasting.

Been using frigate for a couple of years. Blake has done an amazing job! Started out with a USB Coral, but switched to using an Intel Arc A380 for all the detection a year ago. This card is shared with my Jellyfin box. You might find the iGPU in the BLink works too? All works a treat for me and far better than the Coral. I’ve been using some old Hikvision PoE cameras and Tapo (TP-Link) WiFi cameras inc. a pan and tilt one, flawless. Cheers lads!

The interview that Gardner Bryant did with Kyle from the Bazzite did a good overview of the situation. In all actuality if it came to it, this might be a situation where if 32-bit is important for steam and game preservation, it should be up to Valve to provide a way for this. The steam client already uses containers runtimes for stabilization so this also could apply to 32-bit support. Valve can also maintain there own repository of 32-bit libraries that distributions can pull from instead too. Also 3rd party repositorys are a thing and I wouldn't put it past someone to maintain on for this very reason too. Love ya Noah and Steve!

I also ended up subscribing to Alby Cloud. I tired to load Alby hub on my Raspberry Pi but kept running into roadblocks. Probably once I get my nextcloud server going, I will take a look into it again. Also tip for those who are getting started, you can use fountain or primal to get the necessary sats to get started but the with the first channel opening, it might not work. I ended up transferring the sats to the alby shared wallet first then pay it via the extension. I then connected it to my alby account to transfer the remaining sats over. I wish it was a bit more simpler but now I understand why it is a chore. Also Chris what are your thoughts about using PayPal to buys sats and transfering it over to alby? After my fiasco with River, I forgotten PayPal offers buying Bitcoin as well. I'm a Washington resident too so would that affect me tax wise?

I have to say fountain is working quite nice. I have an audio bug, but they got back to me with having a fix for the 1.1.8 release. Here's hoping. With that said, I would love an ability to add a song to my library from the player screen or a quick add of the tracklist of music podcasts to a playlist. It would be nice if the posts would format better on the nostr overall. It looks nice on fountain with linking to clips, podcasts, and/or songs, but on primal for example, it just shows the boost bot which isn't helpful. Also cross posting to activitypub would be awesome too. Mostr.pub by soapbox could be a way todo it. Eitherway, excited with what fountain is doing and what it has going down the road.

Finally got my fountain wallet name fixed and removed the "-nostr " add-on. I guess I had an account back in 2022 and had no email attached to it so I couldn't log in to it. Would it be possible to look into Soapbox.pub and their server Ditto? Apparently it is a Nostr relay that also acts a fediserver with its bridge called Mostr. So basically giving you the best of both worlds. If it a good choice, it would be nice If JB hosted it's own server so it would make onboarding on Nostr easier and still be able to communicate.
