121: No Going Back

Imho we have let the crypto skeptics get inside our heads. I think as a community we should lean into the fact that boost are powered by bitcoin. As a small business, I’m grateful to have support in a hard asset. It’s helped me fight inflation and keep my head above water. Bitcoin is an intelligence test, and I don’t need everyone in the world listening. I want a great audience, not the biggest audience possible. These are things we should lean into as a podcasting community trying to offer an alternative to mainstream crap. Go Podcasting!

Just wanted to say I really appreciate the work you guys do behind the scenes for the us Podcasters out here! Also +1 to the idea of putting an on-chain Address in the funding tag. I’ve definitely heard from a few listeners that would support via onchain, because that’s where they already have their stats.

I’m not a total Linux newbie, have been running a couple of Ubuntu servers and Linux Mint on a laptop for over a year now, but want to set up a Linux desktop as a daily driver now. Boost for the road! I’d like to hear your opinion on Open Source LLMs. If an LLM is Open Source, how much can we know about the security and telemetry of that model? If the source code is visible and we can audit it, can we be reassured of what’s being logged or used for training, or is it still a black box? I’m having a debate with a friend at the moment, he says that LLMs are black boxes, even if they are Open Source. What say you?

Thanks for this great conversation, it was good to hear from some Bitcoin/lightning skepics. Anecdote for me, I use lightning all the time. I've accepted probably 50 donations via lightning for my Bitcoin meetup, I buy and sell (legal) goods and services with lightning all the time. I run a node on start9 and zap with it all the time with NWC (although I use the primal wallet for receiving zaps). I know a lot less about technical privacy, but I believe that lightning & liquid both offer decent privacy and I use liquid via aqua also all the time. Because Bitcoin is the only store of value that I trust, I like that I don't need to use crappy exchanges to try to get XMR or something just to spend.
